The famous Chinese fishing nets used along the coast of Kochi, especially in Chinese Fishing Nets, Fort Kochi. These fishing nets are large, shore-operated nets fixed on wooden and bamboo poles that stretch over the sea. They are believed to have been introduced by Chinese traders in the 14th century, which is why they are also called “Cheena vala” (Chinese nets). The nets are lowered into the water and then lifted using a simple balance system with stones tied to ropes. In the photo, the nets are seen at sunset, which is one of the most beautiful times to watch them. The structure, the calm Arabian Sea, and the orange reflection of the sun make it a well-known cultural and tourist symbol of Fort Kochi. The fishing net in Cochin is a traditional Chinese fishing net used by local fishermen and is one of the most iconic sights of Kochi.
