An ancient stone temple located in Aihole, Karnataka, India. Aihole is often called the “Cradle of Indian Temple Architecture”, as it served as a major center of early Chalukyan architecture during the 6th–8th centuries CE. The temple in the image is built entirely of sandstone and displays the Dravidian architectural style. It features intricately carved pillars and walls, with a sanctum (garbhagriha) and a mandapa (pillared hall). The design includes ornamental motifs and sculptures on the outer walls, showcasing the artistic skill of early temple builders. The open hall supported by stone columns was likely used for rituals or gatherings.

Aihole has over 120 temples dedicated to Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist traditions. These temples illustrate the evolution of South Indian temple design, which later influenced the architecture of Pattadakal and Badami.

This site is recognized as a heritage location under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
