In this sculpture, Hanuman is seen tearing open his chest to reveal the images of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita inside his heart. This act symbolizes Hanuman’s unwavering devotion, loyalty, and love toward Rama and Sita.
According to the epic Ramayana, Hanuman declared that Rama and Sita always reside in his heart, and to prove it, he tore open his chest. It is one of the most famous depictions of Hanuman’s devotion (bhakti) in temples and art. And this architecture are design at a South Indian temple. The style of carvings and golden color work are common in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka temple gopurams (tower gateways). So, this is a temple sculpture of Lord Hanuman in South India, showing his supreme devotion to Rama and Sita.
