The Chinese fishing nets, known in the local dialect as cheena vala, are large, shore-operated fishing devices in Kochi, Kerala, India. It is believed that they were introduced to India by Chinese explorers, such as Zheng He. These unique structures consist of a fixed cantilever balanced by large stones and a net that is dipped into the water. Operated by a team of fishermen, these devices are lowered into the water and elevated after some time to catch fish. They play a significant role not only furnishing the region with fish but also serving as symbols of Kerala's coastal culture and tourist attractions.
